Like many other veterans and servicemembers, I found that the outdoors is a means of therapy.  It is a way to think.  To calm your mind.  To connect with yourself and what you believe.  It is a culture to be in nature. It is a way to bond with others, nature, and God. ​​

In 2012, I first stepped foot in the turkey woods of Fort Cavazos, Texas.  I was able to harvest a few jakes, as I was still a young turkey hunter at the time.  It was relatively challenging to figure out how to hunt on post at first.  I met a few people along the way, but there wasn't really a community around turkey hunting or helping others learn how to hunt.

In early 2016, I talked with a few other hunting friends, but no one seemed to want to copy The Hunting Public.  Even though, I created a Facebook page called 1Mission Outdoors.  It went unpublished for a long time.   I envisioned a team of experts in all things hunting and fishing, that were all veterans.  Those two items were what made the team special in my mind. 

 

So, the idea remained stagnant, until the spring of 2019.  I met Justin Cox on the side of a hill during a bowhunt.  I taught him the ropes and we became friends. I volunteered and became heavily involved in the Fort Cavazos (formally Fort Hood) outdoor turkey hunting community and recreational program.

I felt there was a need to bring a team of knowledgeable people together, to show others how they "made it a mission" to walk out of the woods with success.  I wanted to influence others in the hunting values and experiences.

 

I was driven to bring a team of all veteran/servicemembers together, to show THEIR SKILLS in the outdoors on a social media platform. 

 

Jesse searched the ranks. He asked other veterans and servicemembers he had met over his 22 years of service to join a ragtag outdoor team.  ​

After finding a good group of local hunters, Jesse launched 1Mission Outdoors on Instagram and began building a website.

That is the foundation to Team 1Mission Outdoors. 

​

Having people around you, who understand what you went through in the military, is crucial for any current or transitioning servicemember. 

 

Having the ability to bond through hunting and fishing, is what 1Mission Outdoors was created for.  We are a support unit, mentors, hunters...a network of veterans, who are bonded by service to country and the great outdoors.  We love the great outdoors and want to encourage more veterans and servicemembers to FIND PEACE IN THE OUTDOORS TOO.
